Predictably, the Coronavirus pandemic has created a renewed interest in topics such as mental health and how to work from home. However, another, more unlikely topic has also seen a noticeable uptick in Google Searches: project management.
The Pandemic Drives Up Interest in Project Management
With a market share of 85.55%, Google is a veritable treasure trove of data that provides many interesting insights into the behavior and preferences of global and local audiences.
For example, Google’s most recent data shows that people around the world are getting ready to cautiously venture outside after two years of restrictions imposed as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a report published by the company, searches for places of interest have grown by over 500% on a year-to-year basis, while queries for entry requirements have grown over 600% over the same period.
The Reasons Behind the Growing Interest in Project Management
It’s easy to see why searches related to travel and vacations have increased. Vaccination and the lifting of mandates in some countries are giving people a measure of cautious confidence.
However, there’s another search trend whose causes are less evident.
Google’s figures show that searches for project management tools have grown by 500% globally on a year-to-year basis, while searches for project management software have increased by 300% globally.
Some of the exact terms people are using include “best project management tools,” “best project management software,” and “free project management tools.”
This substantial increase is probably linked to changes in work culture brought about by the pandemic, such as coworking, remote work, and distributed teams.
It makes sense: at its core, project management is all about delivering results on time and within budget, and this has never been more important (or more challenging) than during the pandemic.
